What is an off grid camper?
An off grid camper, also known as an expedition truck, is a specially built vehicle designed for people who want to travel and stay in complete freedom, without relying on external facilities or other dependencies. Our campers are fully equipped, allowing you to embark on long journeys worry-free and comfortably stay in remote areas for extended periods.
Compared to standard campers, our off grid truck campers feature four- or six-wheel drive and a custom suspension system that connects the camper unit to the truck. This setup enables you to venture far off the beaten path with ease.

Off grid in full comfort
Our campers are fully equipped, meaning you don’t have to compromise on comfort during your wild adventures. Each camper includes a comfortable sleeping area, a well-equipped kitchen, and ample storage space—all finished with a rugged yet modern design. No matter where you go, you’ll always have your own cozy bed, the freedom to cook your own meals, and the ability to shower whenever and wherever you like. Got dirty clothes on the road? No worries, you can even opt for a built-in washing machine.
Take our Project 123 as an example. This camper features a spacious and comfortable U-shaped lounge area that can be converted into an extra bed and includes multiple storage compartments. It also comes with a generous 195-liter fridge-freezer combination and a combination oven. The bathroom boasts a luxurious rain shower, a dry toilet, and a washing machine.
Off grid campers we’ve built
For example, we transformed a brand-new Scania S590 into a fully equipped off grid truck camper for one of our clients. Inside, the vehicle features a rear-mounted bed, a spacious lounge area in front of it, a generous kitchen with a Corian countertop, a 300L fridge-freezer combination, and a wet room with a shower, separating toilet, and washing machine. When traveling off-grid, you have the freedom to go wherever and whenever you want. But with that freedom comes responsibility. Here are some practical tips to help you get the most out of your camper and your journey:
Before setting off, make sure the areas you plan to visit are accessible and safe for wild camping. Familiarize yourself with local laws and regulations, and respect them. This helps you avoid unexpected fines and steers you clear of potential risks during your trip or while camping.
You don’t want to run out of water, food, or fuel while on the road. Always carry enough water and gas for cooking, or plan your route with resupply points in mind. This way, you can travel with peace of mind.
Planning a long trip? Then don’t skip regular check-ups and maintenance. Make sure to inspect your solar panels, batteries, heating system, and water installations. Twiga can assist with these services too. Regular maintenance helps you avoid preventable issues and ensures a smooth journey.
Always respect the natural environment where you camp. Take your waste with you and carry enough garbage bags to store it properly. Consider using biodegradable soap to prevent harming nature when disposing of used water.
